Run Internet Explorer on Linux
A problem that many web developers face when they switch from Microsoft Windows to an open source operating system (Ubuntu, Fedora, Archlinux, OpenSUSE, Mandriva, Debian, BSD etc.) is the imposibility of running tests on Internet Explorer, since IE is officially suported only on Windows.
IEs4Linux is an open source software that allows you to run 3 versions of Internet Explorer on your Linux based operating system:
- Internet Explorer 6
- Internet Explorer 5.5
- Internet Explorer 5
Although, useful today can be considered only running Internet Explorer 6 to test websites, IEs4Linux has announced in its beta version the support for Internet Explorer 7 and Graphical User Interface using pygtk.
IEs4Linux is not intended for surfing the web, it is for WebDesigners that want to move to Linux, but still need to test their sites on IE and people who have to open IE-only sites. The application is still not stable, with frecvent crashes, especially the beta version.
If IEs4Linux is not enough for you, then you can always install a virtual machine with a Microsoft operating system and have all IE versions.
